## Only A Point
1 / JUST A POINT
"When you are playing a point, it has to be the most important thing in the world. But when it's behind you, it's behind you."

## Only A Point
1 / JUST A POINT

Roger's Total Matches
That's the mindset that frees you to fully commit to the next point with intensity, clarity, and focus. You teach yourself to think: I double faulted, it's only a point. Even a great shot on a top 10 playlist, just a point.
Negative energy is wasted energy. The best in the world are the best because they know they'll lose again and again and have learned how to deal with it.

## Control the Flames (Archived)
2 / CONTROL THE FLAMES
Roger was fragile emotionally. He could not accept defeat. He was mediocre in training. He was fooling around most of the time. His opponents called him mentally weak.
He learnt to control the flames instead of extinguishing them, converting them into slow-burning fuel rather than a bonfire of distraction.
He didn't become calm. The blood still boils.
He built the skill to channel it. Same arc as Steve Jobs: the intensity never left, he just learned to aim it.

**128 men played his debut Grand Slam in 1999.
He was the last one still on tour.**
His trainer Paganini had the same insight Bill Bowerman had decades before anyone else. **Rest isn't laziness.** It's intelligent restraint in service of long-term consistency. Stress, recover, improve. Work too hard plus rest too little equals injury.

## Happiness is Strategy (Archived)
5 / HAPPINESS IS THE STRATEGY
"I can only play good tennis when I'm happy."
| Theme | Insight | Image | Video |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Family First | His family traveled everywhere with him. When burnout crept in, he'd strip to the minimum: practice, matches, family. Everything else goes. | | https://d6yvfl55smr7u.cloudfront.net/assets/twsjv2rr-1771638329823-rog-fam-720.mov |
| Sacred Time | Late night was his therapy time, sacred alone time where he wasn't anyone's player or icon. "Too much constant focus can grind you down." | | https://d6yvfl55smr7u.cloudfront.net/assets/cnkluv6u-1771634780504-fed-pressure-720.mov |
| The Contrast | Compare that to Saffin, a peer who never got this right: "The higher I went, the more heavy in my head. Heavy, heavy, heavy pressure. I got burned out." | | https://d6yvfl55smr7u.cloudfront.net/assets/gcy5kw02-1771635295947-marat-racquet-7209.mov |

"He lives a moment, experiences it fully, finishes it, and moves on to the next. A talent that fascinates me more than his tennis."
